ALBANY -- The 2nd annual Paul Eames Baseball Tournament was rained out and all the teams were sent home on Saturday because of the conditions of the field, wiping out the semifinal and championship games that had been scheduled for today.
Of the four local teams in the 13-team tournament, Leesburg Post 182's under-19 team was affected the most. Post 182 was leading last year's champ, Vero Beach (Fla.), 3-2, in the third inning Saturday when rains canceled the tournament. Had Post 182 hung on the Leesburg team would have advanced to the semifinals.
Post 182 was led on Saturday by Blake Chaney, who doubled, scored a run and drove in a run, Hunter Brettel, who singled and scored, and Casey James, who tripled, scored and drove in a run. Post 182's junior team lost to the Tallahassee Baseball club, 8-5.
Albany's Post 30, which hosted the tournament, fell in two games on Saturday. The senior team lost to the Tallahassee Expos, 5-2, and the junior team lost to Vero Beach, 11-0.
