The Dougherty County School System Finance Committee on Monday recommended the bond counsel service of McKenna, Long and Aldridge of Atlanta as the system pursues a $40 million STEP bond.
The motion passed by a 2-1 vote and will be placed on the full school board agenda at tonight's regular meeting.
Committee members Anita Williams-Brown and James Bush voted for the McKenna, Long and Aldridge proposal which has a five-year projected cost of $57,000, while Carol Tharin recommended Murray, Barnes, Finester, whose costs projected at $37,000.
Bush said he had worked with ML&A's attorneys before, one of whom he said was a graduate of Monroe, and he felt comfortable with the firm.
Tharin said she wanted to save the system $20,000 in counsel costs.
In other business, Bush urged the committee to take a hard look at the costs associated with employee take-home vehicles.
"Excluding police, I don't think people should be taking vehicles home.," Bush said. "I think they need to drive their own vehicles to work like everybody else."
The committee agreed to look into the matter.
