APD: String of burglaries under investigation

ALBANY, Ga. -- An investigation continues into a string of burglaries that started Thursday night and continued through Saturday morning, an Albany Police Department official said.

Although all eight of the burglaries took place in Albany's central district, there doesn't seem to be a link to an organized burglary ring, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman.

"It is possible that a homeless man made entry through doors and windows," Banks said. "Food and change were taken. There is evidence that whoever broke into the 800 North Washington Street business was injured badly by glass in the break in."

The eight burglaries listed by a police report were:

* 800 N. Washington St., Susie's Rugs, broken into sometime during Thursday to Monday;

* 928 W. Highland Ave., Rabbit & Paula's Detail Shop, burglarized between 5 p.m. Saturday and 9:50 a.m. Sunday;

* 211 N. Jefferson St., Pace Building, burglars entered sometime after 7 p.m Friday to noon Saturday;

* 121 N. Front St., Deparment of Community Affairs, broken into about 9:30 p.m. Saturday;

* 423 W. Broad Ave., F&F Industries, burglarized between 3 p.m Friday night and 8:30 a.m. Saturday;

* 415 Flint Ave., Dougherty Blue Print, burglars entered about 10 p.m. Saturday night;

* 607 N. Jefferson St., J.E. Hanger, burglarized between 6 p.m. Thursday night and 8 a.m. Friday;

* 400 Pine Ave., Friendship Baptist Church, burglarized between 9 p.m. Thursday night and 6:30 a.m. Friday.
