ALBANY, Ga. -- It took a jury less than 30 minutes to find a 20-year-old Albany man guilty of sexual crimes against a 7-year-old girl, a court official said.
For molesting his young cousin, Montrevious Spurlin heads to prison to serve 25 years on a sentence from Dougherty County Superior Court Judge Willie Lockette.
"The jury was in tears through the case," Chief Assistant District Attorney Heather Lanier said. "We hope this sends a strong message that this behavior will not be acceptable in our community. It will be punished severely."
The sentence on charges of aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy and sexual battery of a child under 16 among other charges also mean Spurlin must register as a sex offender and serve a lifetime on probation, Lanier added.
Lanier said the District Attorney's Office staff shared in the prosecution of the case. She mustered the jury while District Attorney Greg Edwards and Assistant District Attorney Steven Lee argued the case to its conclusion.
