ALBANY, Ga. -- A gunman who law enforcement officials say wore a grandmotherly looking wig while robbing two Dougherty County convenience stores was booked into jail Friday -- sans the wig.
Tyrafred "Ray-Ray" Campbell, 19, pulled a handgun on clerks at the stores, grabbed about $1,500 and shot at a witness about 10 p.m. Monday, a Dougherty County Police Department officials charge.
Campbell is accused of robbing the Pitt Stop at 3225 Sylvester Road and, within seven minutes, hitting the Fast Lane store at 3000 Sylvester Road, where police say he fired at and missed a witness sitting in a car.
According to county police Detective Chad Kirkpatrick, Campbell will be charged with three counts armed robbery, three counts possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and four counts of aggravated assault.
"He was a passenger in a vehicle on I-75 in Dooly County when caught," Kirkpatrick said. "The investigation was a cooperative effort by us, Dooly County and the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation)."
When Campbell is finished in Dougherty County, Lee County sheriff's deputies want to charge him with armed robbery, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Lee County Chief Deputy Lewis Harris said that a wigless Campbell held up a Homerun Foods store on U.S. Highway 19 on July 9.
