ALBANY, Ga. -- Dougherty County School System officials announced moments ago that pre-kindergarten classes will begin with the rest of the school classes on Aug. 1.
System Public Information Officer R.D. Harter said the original start date for pre-k classes had been Aug. 8.
In an emailed statement, Harter said, "A decision has been made to begin the DCSS Pre-K progarm for four-year-olds on the same day as the rest of the system begins classes -- that day is Monday, August 1. Because of reduced funding for Pre-K, many parents have been informed that Pre-K would not start until August 8.
"To eliminate confusion about the first day of class and provide convenience for parents with students in upper grades instruction and pre-k students, the system will begin Pre-K at the same time."
