Accountability needed on Lee garbage fees

On the subject of Lee County garbage fees being added to property taxes, where I came from the property taxes covered the garbage, trash and recycling collection.

I agree that it would create a financial burden for most of us, initially in one way or another. It seems to me that if fees were collected and put into an interest-bearing account, maybe the fees could be reduced at a later date. It sounds to me that if all the non-payment accounts would do the right thing and pay, we all could get a break on the future fees.

Somebody should be held accountable for letting this get out of control. Maybe we need to take a poll around the country and see how many areas collect garbage fees with property taxes. I think the results would surprise everyone.
