ATHENS -- University of Georgia legend Dan Magill is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at the Atlanta Braves game Sunday before the Braves take on the Florida Marlins at Turner Field. The event was organized as one of Magill's 90th birthday gifts and was announced at the party in his honor that attracted more than 800 guests to Athens in January.

A native Athenian, Magill coached the Georgia men's tennis team for 34 years from 1955-88 and led the Bulldogs to their first two national championships in the sport. He compiled a career record of 706-183, which made him the winningest coach in NCAA history at the time of his retirement. He also served time as the school's sports information director and founded the athletic department's fundraising arm, The Bulldog Club, in all 159 counties in the state.

Magill is still active in the collegiate tennis and UGA communities, working as the curator of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Hall of Fame housed on campus, as well as the chair of the Hall of Fame selection committee.

The most recent of his many accolades was the Tennis Educational Merit Award, presented in April and given to individuals who have made notable contributions in the tennis education field at the national level.
