LEE -- The Lee County Library and the Lee County Chamber of Commerce as part of Under the Oaks Art Fest is hosting its third annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Challenge on March 12.

The event will take place in front of the T. Page Tharp Governmental Building on Starksville Avenue in Leesburg from 10 a.m.-1p.m. Contestants must register with a sketch of the artwork by Wednesday. The art contest is open to seasoned and emerging artists ages 15 and older. There is no charge to enter.

Each participant will be given one box of pastels. Participants are encouraged to bring additional chalk as well as other supplies they may need.

"It's inspiring to watch the art around you unfold. It's fun and challenging because of the environment. Working with hard materials in an outside environment, having all the participants and observers around you makes it more artist," said Tabatha Puiszis, previous art contestant.

In the past two years there have been about 25 entries. Guidelines and registration forms are available at any Lee County Library.

Cash prizes from $50 to $200 will be awarded. Contact (229) 759-2028 for more information.
