COLUMBUS -- The Lady Cougars are headed to Macon. The Lady Patriots are headed home.
Crisp County's 15-14 girls basketball team shocked Westover on Saturday afternoon at Columbus State in the GHSA Class AAA Elite 8, 37-35, to advance to the Final Four in Macon next week. The win pushed Crisp's record above .500 for the first time all season.
The loss for the 25-5, Herald No. 1 Lady Patriots is even more shocking considering Westover beat Crisp in all three its its regular-season meetings, including in the Region 1-AAA tournament just two weeks ago.
Westover led the whole way until late in the third quarter when Crisp took a 24-22 lead into the final period and never gave it back.
