DAWSON -- Christopher Moates went 3-for-3 with two homers, a double and drove in five runs, and Gil Gillespie hit a grand slam in Deerfield's 17-0 rout of Terrell Academy on Tuesday. But they weren't alone on the DWS highlight tape as the Knights pounded out 18 hits, and Rhett Cooper (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings in the mercy-rule rout. He gave up two hits and struck out two. Cooper also went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Harris Webb went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, Banks Kinslow went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Lindsay Short and Matt Moree each went 2-for 2.
LATE MONDAY -- GLENWOOD ACADEMY (ALA.) 4, DEERFIELD-WINDSOR 3, (9): Davvis Moore and Michael Laslie each went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, and Moates drove in a run in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Moates also pitched four innings as DWS used three pitchers. The winning run scored on a bases-loaded walk.
LEE COUNTY GIRLS SOCCER 2, TCC 1: Nicole Polk scored both goals and Carson Taylor had an assist as the Lady Trojans won their Region 1-AAAA opener and improved to 3-4 for the season.
LEE COUNTY BOYS SOCCER 3, TCC 0: Darius Johnson, Patrick Soto and Hayden Garza scored for Lee County and Adrian Gabre recorded his first shutout of the season as the Trojans won their Region 1-AAAA opener and improved to 2-6 for the season.
ALBANY HIGH BOYS TENNIS, 5, EARLY COUNTY 0: Corey Edwards beat Garrett Cleveland, 8-2, in No. 1 singles, Sohum Jetha beat T.J. Pope, 13-8 in No. 2 singles and Alex Price knocked off Alex Cochran, 8-3, in No. 3 singles. Charles Norvel and Dylan Duke defeated Cody Houston Eugene Ellis, 8-0, in No. 1 doubles, and Peter Diaz and drew Tabatt beat Dylan Green and John Griggs, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles. Albany High is 3-0.
EARLY GIRLS TENNIS 4, ALBANY HIGH 1: Jasmine James defeated Jessica Merritt, 8-2 in No. 1 singles and Hannah Houston defeated Kelsey Swords, 8-1, in No. 2 singles. Albany defaulted at No. 3 singles.
Kaylin Harrell and Brook Simpson beat Justice Childs and Mariah Capp, 8-1 in No. 1 doubles, and Paige Still and Lindsey Smith beat Mariah Marshall and Khalia Williams, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles.
WESTOVER BOYS SOCCER 4, WORTH COUNTY 0: Danny Brown scored three goals and had an assist, and Cory Walters scored a goal and split time in the net with Steven Vaiculevich to record the shutout. Westover had to make only one save in the game. Bridger Ferrell, and Sagar Patel had assists. Westover is now 3-1-2.
SHERWOOD GIRLS SOCCER 2, TIFTAREA 1: Paige Barker and Jordyn Paramore scored for SCA and Mary Margaret Charles and Kristina McNutt had assists. Victoria Davidson allowed only one goal as SCA improved to 3-0 for the season and 1-0 in region.
SEMINOLE BASEBALL MOVES TO 6-0:
DONALSONVILLE -- Justin Burke pitched a no-no with nine strikeouts in a 10-0, five-inning win Tuesday against Mitchell County to improve the Indians' record to 6-0.
Burke also was 1-for-1 with 3 RBI, while Antwan Buggs was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI.
WESTWOOD BASEBALL 9, BROOKWOOD 7: Jake Edore smacked two doubles, Douglas Nobles hit a home run, a double and had four RBI to help the Wildcats improve to 3-0.
Nobles was also the winning pitcher, going the distance with six strikeouts.
WORTH COUNTY GIRLS SOCCER 3, WESTOVER 2 -- PKS: The Lady Rams avenged a loss last week to the Lady Patriots on Tuesday, but it took two overtimes and penalty kicks.
Mike Reid scored two goals and Maggie Satterfield and Sachi Daughety each had an assist for Westover, although no final stats for Worth County were available.
Daughety signed with Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, Tenn., earlier Tuesday.

DEERFIELD-WINDSOR SOCCER SPLITS WITH BROOKWOOD: Laney Elliott, Sumner Pilcher and Emily Murphy scored for DWS and Katie Williams recorded the shutout as the DWS girls defeated Brookwood, 3-0, in the team's opening game of the season. The DWS boys soccer team fell to Brookwood, 1-0, in the season opener.
SGA BASEBALL 8, RANDOLPH SOUTHERN 5: Taylor Tabb went 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI, and Parker Adams went 2-for-4 with an RBI for SGA. Carson Ray pitched four innings for the win for SGA (2-0). Jon Floyd went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Randolph Southern.
