THURSDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: 2010 Herald POY Brown, Patel lead Westover boys soccer in 9-2 crushing of Crisp

ALBANY -- Sager Patel scored three times, reigning Herald Player of the Year Danny Brown scored four times and Bridger Ferrell and Alfred Nwankwo each added one goal as the Westover boys routed Crisp County on Thursday, 9-2, to improve to 4-1-2. Brown's career high for one game was six last season.

Patel, Brown, Ben Fowler and Steven Vaiculevich each had one assist, while Ferrell had three.

Crisp's Stanley Thomas avoided the shutout when he blasted in a goal from "60 yards out -- it was a heck of a shot," Westover coach Greg Brown said.

Calvin Cotton added Crisp's other goal.

WESTOVER GIRLS DOWN CRISP IN TENNIS, BOYS ROUTED:

ALBANY -- The Westover boys were routed by Crisp County on Thursday, 5-0, at Darton College, but the Lady Patriots got even and won their match, 3-2.

At No. 1 singles, Westover's Savannah Boysen defeated Carmen Sims, 6-2, 6-0, while No. 2 singles star Lizzie Hale defeated Olivia Robbins 7-5, 7-6 (5). Amber Miller kept Crisp from getting swept at No. 3 singles when she beat Rachel Clenney, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles, Crisp's No. 1 team of Anna Grace McLeod/Leah Cobb defeated Morgan Barton/Mills Pickett, 3-6, 7-6(5) 6-0, to even the match at 2-2, but Westover's No. 2 doubles team of Rebekah Brown/Meera Kuntawala beat Catherine Mayo/Carrigan Belcher 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, in three sets to lock up the win.

The Westover girls improved to 5-2, while the boys' record dropped to 4-3.
