FRIDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP/SPORTS BRIEFS: Lee County, Seminole, SGA baseball all win; Lee, SCA girls soccer win; former Olympic gold medal swimmers to be in Albany today

COLUMBUS -- The Lee County baseball team stormed back to beat Hardaway, 6-5, on Friday night in the Trojans' Region 1-AAAA opener, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh.

Andrew Stroud, who finished 3-for-3 with two RBI, got the rally going when he drove in teammates Pedro Cruz and Daniel Nichols to tie the game, then Matt Mears pushed across Stroud for the go-ahead run with a sac bunt. Ryan Horne also had a solid day, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Chase Burnfin earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings, giving up two hits and striking out three after starter Cole Goodwin struggled in the first four innings, giving up three home runs to Hardaway to dig the Trojans a hole.

The win improves Lee County's record to 4-3 and 1-0 in 1-AAAA.

Lee's next game is Tuesday at home against Northside Warner Robins at 6 p.m.



Sam Buczek picked up the win, going 6 1/3 innings, striking out five and allowing just five hits. His younger brother Josh closed out the game, while Caleb Morrell took the loss for the Hornets.

Chris Brown went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Sam Buczek scored three runs. Antwan Buggs hit a homer for Seminole, his first of the year.

The win improved Seminole's record to 7-2 as the Indians -- who started 7-0 -- rebounded from two tough losses to Rehobeth, Ala. Seminole's next game is Tuesday at Terrell County.



The Rams managed just two hits -- one by Brandon Weaver and one by Corey Odum -- in the loss Friday. Odom also took the loss, giving up four hits.


LATE THURSDAY -- SGA 11, Randolph South 1 (5): Dillon Driver struck out nine and gave up just three hits as the Warriors improved to 4-0, setting up a showdown Monday with fellow unbeaten and area rival Westwood in Camilla at 4 p.m.

Van Harrell and Carson Ray led the way for SGA, both going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Driver also had a double.



BAINBRIDGE -- The Lee County girls soccer team demolished Bainbridge on Friday, 9-0, behind goals from Carsen Taylor (3) and Ansley Askew (2), while Nicole Polk, Sarah Sheffield, Courtney Beck and Kristi Sheridan with one each. Morgan Barbaro helped out with three assists as Lee improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in region, setting up a showdown Tuesday in Leesburg with local rival Westover.


SCA GIRLS SOCCER NOW 4-0: Sherwood's girls soccer team remained undefeated by knocking off Calvary Christian, 4-0, late Thursday. Mary Margaret Charles led the way with two goals, while Paige Barker and Casie Wright chipped in one goal each. Jordyn Paramore and Barker also provided assists. Hannah Thompson recorded her second shutout of the season.

The Lady Eagles' record is now 4 - 0 and 2-0 in region play.
