ALBANY — High school basketball season in Southwest Georgia may have officially ended Saturday when the Terrell County boys — the area’s last team standing in the state playoffs — fell in the Class A title game to Wilkinson County.
But thanks to Herman Porter, it will be extended by one week — one action-packed, rim-rocking, exciting week.
The 4th annual Deep South All-Star Classic will take place Saturday at Darton College at 6 p.m., kicked off by the girls game — featuring the North All-Stars (Albany area) vs. the South All-Stars (Southwest Georgia’s surrounding areas). In between the girls and boys games, there will be a 3-point shooting contest and a slam-dunk contest.
“This is an event where you’re definitely going to see someone slam dunking, some 3-point shooting and a lot of action in between,” Porter said. “And as always, there will be plenty of college scouts in the house.”
The boys South All-Stars will be coached by Early County’s Randy Isom, while the North All-Stars will be coached by Dougherty’s Donald Poole. The girls South All-Stars team will be coached by Pelham’s Antonia Tookes, while the North will be coached by Monroe’s Cheryl Cheeks.
Last year, the North teams won both games.
