ALBANY, Ga. — Sitting just a few blocks from Albany State University, a new apartment building seems to fit student housing needs.

Henry M. Brown, pastor of The House of Prayer by Faith “God’s Hospital” church, along with other pastors and church members, dedicated his church’s four-apartment building Saturday.

“The Holy Spirit put it into my head that there was a need for affordable housing. This is my vision,” Brown said. “This is a blessed safe place for people to live. There is a handicap equipped apartment on the bottom floor.”

While Brown said he would rent to anyone who needed good, affordable housing such as doctors, lawyers and others, the apartments seem more oriented toward student living.

The two-story building’s apartments each have four bedrooms with private baths. There is a common kitchen and living area in the center of the bedroom arrangement.

This is similar to living arrangements on many college campuses today, where students have single rooms but share the kitchen, dining and living areas.

Brown would not say what rent he would charge, but he did say prospective renters should talk to him about the cost of renting a room.

All the rooms have been individually blessed by other pastors and religious people praying in each room after Brown finished his formal dedication. They prayed individually in each room that Jesus would protect the future occupants against drugs and other harmful influences.

Attending the dedication, Jimmy Gardner, pastor of Israel’s Temple on the 700 block of West Society Avenue and about 15 others attended the dedication.

“These apartments enhance the neighborhood,” Gardner said. “It is an affordable place for those who need a place to stay.”
