ALBANY, Ga. -- Jury selection could be finished in a domestic homicide case Monday, after which opening attorney arguments should begin, a court official said.
"We have had a lot of jury trials this week," said Greg Edwards, district attorney for the Dougherty Judicial Circuit. "We have a limited jury pool, so some of our jurors may have to serve again."
In addition, the pretrial publicity surrounding the trial of Marlina Von Hamilton, 33 at the time of her arrest for fatally shooting her ex-husband in the penis and the chest on Oct. 12, 2010, slowed the selection process that started Thursday, Edwards said.
Multiple Albany Police Department visits concerning domestic problems between Von Hamilton and her ex-husband, Christopher Donaldson, 32 at his death, could lead to a battered woman defense.
Edwards has said the evidence in the case does not show a credible self-defense case.
"Because of the domestic violence and the pretrial publicity, we have had to interview each potential juror individually," Edwards said. "That is necessary for jury objectivity. It also takes time. Opening arguments should start Monday."
