ALBANY -- Albany police have identified the officer who was bitten by a dog Saturday while responding to a domestic violence call.
Plyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said Monday that Officer Todd Barbree, 43, was bitten on the inner part of his left thigh by a pit bull. The incident occurred about 4:20 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Ninth Avenue.
The dog, named Bird, was returned to its owner Monday morning, Banks said.
Barbree reportedly fired at least two shots, though Bird, a 60-pound red pit bull, was uninjured. Banks said the discharge of the firearm is still under investigation.
Residents of the neighborhood said Barbree jumped a short fence at a residence that was not the one at which the domestic violence incident was reported.
