TUESDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: SGA baseball routs Valwood, moves to perfect 7-0; Lee County baseball rebounds, beats Bainbridge, 7-4

DAMASCUS -- The Southwest Georgia Academy baseball team continued one of its best starts in school history Tuesday when the Warriors routed Valwood, 11-0, in five innings. SGA improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in region.

Carson Ray picked up the win, going four innings, giving up two hits and striking out five. Taylor Tabb then came on and closed it out, going three-up and three-down. Ray was 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and two RBI, while Parker Adams was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Tabb hit a double and drove in a run. Dillon Driver also hit a double and Caleb Smith finished with two RBI.

SGA now gets set for its biggest test of the season Friday when it travels to take on last year's GISA Class A state champ Citizen's Christian, which moved up to AA this past offseason.

LEE COUNTY 7, BAINBRIDGE 4:

One night after getting shellacked by Tift County, Lee County rebounded Tuesday for a sub-region win against the Bearcats thanks to Chase Griffin's second home run in as many nights. Griffin finished 2-for-4 with four RBI as Lee improved to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in the subregion. The Trojans now stand at 3-1 overall in region play.

Lee County's Chase Patrick finished 2-for-3 with a double, Pedro Cruz was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Daniel Nichols was 2-for-2 with two doubles. Bainbridge was led by Steven Bench (3-for-4, two runs scored) and Blake Boyles (2-for-3).

Cole Goodwin earned the win for Lee, going 4 2/3 innings and striking out seven, while giving up eight hits and walking five. Herald Player of the Year for football, Justin Walker, then came in and closed it out for the save, striking out four and giving up just one hit. Marty Anderson (5 IP, 7 H, 5K) took the loss for Bainbridge.

Lee returns home for a game Friday against Warner Robins at 6 p.m.

SEMINOLE COUNTY 6, MILLER COUNTY 2:

The latest installment of the "Family Feud" between the two neighboring rivals fell the way of Seminole on Tuesday as the Indians won their sixth game in a row to improve to 10-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in region play.

Starting pitcher Justin Burke went the distance, striking out five and giving up eight hits. Brian Lovering took the loss for Miller, giving up 12 hits and striking out seven in six innings of work.

Josh Buczek led Seminole at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a HR and two RBI, while Burke was 2-for-3 and Antwan Buggs was 3-for-3.

Seminole plays again Friday at Class AA power Thomasville.

BACONTON 13, PELHAM 3, (5):

The Blazers improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in region behind a combined three-hitter from James Davis (3 IP, 3Ks) and William Sullivan (2 IP, 3Ks). Sullivan and Davis also both had two hits each.

Tony Holland and Zack Jones led Baconton at the plate, both going 3-for-4 as Jones finished with three doubles and 3 RBI, while Holland, the leadoff hitter, had one double. Brock Pinson also added two hits for Baconton.

Cody Godwin took the loss for Pelham as the Blazers rocked the Hornets pitching staff for 15 total hits.

The Blazers face another rival Friday when they travel to take on Mitchell County.

SOUTHLAND 6, SHERWOOD 1:

Collin Holloway went the distance for the Raiders, striking out eight and giving up just four hits. Clay Wyatt pitched six innings for Sherwood and struck out nine, while giving up eight hits.

Wes Downs led Southland, going 3-for-3 and scoring two runs, while Alan Maples was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI for the Raiders. Sherwood's lone run came from star slugger Zane Hood's solo HR.

Sherwood fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in region play.

WORTH COUNTY 14, DOUGHERTY 2:

With only four hits, the Rams managed to beat the Trojans badly in a walk-fest Tuesday.

Trojans pitchers walked a total of 14 batters and Worth's Will Peacock had the only multi-hit game for the Rams, going 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Eli Reddell also added a double, while Peacock earned the win on the mound, striking out eight and giving up just five hits.

TERRELL ACADEMY 4, BROOKWOOD 3:

Terrell Academy picked up its first region win Tuesday, 4-3, against Brookwood thanks in large part to sophomore Trey Goree's complete-game effort.

Goree pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits, while striking out eight.

Evan Stokes, Josh Wardrip and Logan Duckworth all had clutch run-scoring hits for the Eagles (2-6, 1-1 region).

Terrell Academy travels to Valwood on Friday.

DWS SOCCER SWEEPS SHERWOOD:

The Knights won, 3-0, behind goals from Stanley Chen, Alex Berry and Trey Puckett, while the Lady Knights won, 4-1, thanks to goals from Laney Elliot, Emily Murphy, Emily Duvall and Casey Kincheloe.

WESTOVER GIRLS SOCCER 10, DOUGHERTY 0:

The Lady Pats improved to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in region thanks to three goals from Mika Reid and one each from Shawnee Smallwood, Carley Turner, Chandni Patel, Mary Mills, Abby Estrada, Maggie Satterfield and Sachi Daughety.

Hope Johnson and Leslie Alvarez pitched the shutout in goal.
