AMERICUS, GA -- An inmate who walked off a jail work detail was recaptured after less than a day of freedom, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office reported.
James Watkins, serving time in Sumter County Correctional Facility on burglary and related charges, left a work detail Tuesday. He was caught in Macon at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sheriff Pete Smith said.
According to Smith, information obtained by sheriff's investigators led to the Macon residence where the fugitive squad apprehended Watkins.
