ALBANY, Ga.: A Dougherty County EMS employee has been recognized by the Veterans' of Foreign Wars as its 2010 Paramedic of the Year, officials say.
Paramedic Michael Pinson was awarded the honor during a recent dinner honoring the first responders, Dougherty County EMS Director Bobby Tripp said.
"We're very fortunate to have Michael Pinson, who competed against 250 people at the state awards and 54 for the national award," Tripp said. "For the first time, we've got a national paramedic of the year right here (in Dougherty County)."
Pinson, who was brought before the Dougherty County Commission Monday to be honored, said he was humbled by the experience.
"I'm just really humbled by the experience of being honored by these guys, and I really appreciate what ya'll do for us," Pinson told the board.
Dougherty County Commission Vice Chair Muarlean Edwards, who presided over Monday's meeting, said that the acknowledgment didn't come as a big shock for her.
"You know Mr. Tripp with your leadership and your experience that goes so far back, I'm not surprised that we have employees like that," Edwards said. "We are much appreciative for you all."
