ALBANY, Ga. -- Wal-Mart is continuing to hire associates to work at its new East Albany outlet. The 150,000-square-foot-plus store is slated to open in May and will employ approximately 200 new associates.

For the moment, the retailer is accepting applications only at its Camilla location at 131 N. U.S. Highway 19 and Sylvester Road.

Hiring began this month, and Wal-Mart will continue accepting applications from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Interested applicants can also apply online at http://walmartstores.com/Careers.

According to store manager Andy Carter, the outlet will be hiring both full- and part-time associates, adding that associates are needed to work in all areas of the new store, including supervisory positions

"We are excited to add this Walmart to East Albany and bring good jobs with career opportunities to the area," Carter said.

Carter, a Moultrie native, began his Wal-Mart career in 1994 as a cashier at the retailer's Moultrie store.

"We've hired about 100 people so far, and we're looking to add 100 to 125 more," Carter said. "The response has been great, and even though we are interviewing in Camilla, folks are still driving down from Albany, and we're interviewing between 20 and 25 people per day."

Wal-Mart's benefits program is available to eligible full- and part-time associates and provides a variety of affordable health and well-being benefits, including medical insurance with no lifetime maximum.

The company also offers matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise for store associates, a Sam's Club membership for associates, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance.

Additionally, eligible associates receive an annual incentive based on the company's performance.

The majority of associates will begin work in April to help prepare the store for its grand opening in May.

Just across the parking lot, the work on an outparcel building is progressing well, with eight of 16 available storefronts leased.

The parcel will be anchored by The Dollar Tree and so far includes PetSense, a nail salon, Radio Shack, Shoes Show, Simply Fashion, a Chinese restaurant and Wing Dixie and Deli.
