ALBANY, Ga. -- An organization that aims to provide hope for those in the area battling cancer has found another unique way of raising funds.
The first "Play Bunko -- Battle Cancer" event, hosted by the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition, will be held May 12.
"It is a dice game that is popular among groups of women, mainly," said Amanda Williams, the coalition's development coordinator.
The Bunko tournament will be conducted at Austin's BBQ and Oyster Bar on Meredyth Drive. Those that enjoy the game, or are interested in learning how to play, are encouraged to attend.
Food and drinks will start at 6 p.m. with the game set to kick off at 7 p.m.
In addition to Bunko, participants can bid on items during a silent auction and purchase $1 raffle tickets for the chance to win an outfit from the clothing boutique Envy. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Cole Taylor.
So far, it seems that people have taken to it.
"We've had a good number of tickets sold," Williams said. "We've done well with it so far."
The funds raised will go toward services and programs the coalition provides to cancer patients in Southwest Georgia.
"We have a group of amazing volunteers, and this (event) is their baby," Williams said. "We wanted to do something that hadn't been done and people would enjoy.
"The rates of cancer in Southwest Georgia are extremely high, and a lot of the focus of the Cancer Coalition is local."
Tickets are available for $40 by calling (229) 312-1700, visiting the Cancer Coalition at 2332 Lake Park Drive or going online to www.swgacancer.org.
