Atlanta - Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill Thursday to allow golf carts on city streets in Georgia.
Carts can roll onto streets beginning Jan. 1, 2012.
Golf carts must have safety features, travel no faster than 20 mph, and must be allowed by local jurisdictions, according to wording in the bill (SB240).
Georgia is one of the world's largest manufacturers of golf carts. The legislation aims to promote both the use of golf carts and job growth.
