ALBANY - The Darton softball team will be playing for a national championship in a matter of days, but on Thursday the Lady Cavaliers hopped off the practice field and spent time giving back to the community.

Along with their coaches, the Lady Cavs gave away T-shirts, coloring books, crayons and stickers and played games with young patients in the Pediatric Unit of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The Lady Cavs, who will be playing in the NJCAA World Series next weekend, spent about an hour at the hospital.

"We have been working really hard (on the softball field), so it was good to get away and think about things that are really important," Darton coach David Dews said. "We can sometimes get caught up in our own little world and forget about the important things.
