ALBANY, Ga. -- More than 100 pieces of art created by artists from throughout the region will be on display June 9-23 at the Flint RiverQuarium as part of the annual Southwest Georgia Regional Art Show and Sale.
The show is the 12th in the series, and Albany Area Arts Council Executive Director Deborah Loehr said it has gotten bigger in recent years.
"The quality of work is outstanding," Loehr said. "(The art show and sale) is a wonderful way to encourage the talent in our region to showcase their work.
"We have a lot to be proud of in this community; there are some talented artists here."
Many of the pieces that will be on display at the RiverQuarium will be for sale, and a portion of the proceeds from all sales will benefit the Arts Council. The works of artists from Georgia, Florida and South Carolina will be featured.
"This is the 12th year for the show, which we moved to the RiverQuarium five years ago," Loehr said. "In the time since (the move), the show's gotten bigger each year.
"There will be some interesting, wonderful pieces on display."
Following a reception on June 9, the artwork will be displayed during the RiverQuarium's regular business hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mondays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Admission to the exhibit is free, although RiverQuarium admission fees do apply.
Loehr, whose husband Scott was executive director of the RiverQuarium before leaving to take a position in Delaware, will leave Albany to join her husband at the conclusion of the Southwest Georgia Regional Art Show and Sale.
"Coming to Albany has been a wonderful experience," Deborah Loehr said. "I've loved getting to know so many wonderful people, and I've really loved working downtown. I'm really going to miss the many freinds I've made while here."
