ALBANY, Ga. -- Who said that "there ain't no cure for the summertime blues"?

Homerun Foods and The Albany Herald are teaming up to give one lucky Herald reader an extra reason to enjoy the long, hot summer: $1,000 worth of free gas in the Great Gas Giveaway.

Starting today and running through June 30, a Homerun Foods display ad will appear in The Herald. The ad will include an entry form that can be filled out and dropped off at any of the convenience store/gas station's eight locations in metro Albany.

On July 6, one name will be drawn from all entries, and that lucky winner will be riding the rest of the summer on Homerun Foods.

"Everyone was predicting $5 gas prices by this summer, so things aren't as bad as everyone said they'd be," Hans Pomeroy, president of Brad Lanier Oil Co. -- the parent company of Homerun Foods -- said Monday morning. "But since everyone's been ticked off about high gas prices, we decided we'd do something to help out one of our customers.

"It should be fun for everyone who participates, and it will surely be a nice thing for someone to win $1,000 worth of gas."

According to Herald Circulation Director Michael Hill, readers can enter to win the Great Gas Giveaway as many times as they'd like. To do so, they must fill out an entry form from the Homerun Foods ad in The Herald. Copies of the ad will not be counted as valid entries.

"We recognize the hardship that high gas prices put on our readers because it's something our carriers deal with on a daily basis," Hill said. "But The Herald and Homerun Foods wanted to give something back to our customers, so we came up with the idea for the Great Gas Giveaway.

"It will be fun for all who participate, and there's a nice reward waiting for one lucky entrant."

No purchase is necessary to enter the contest, but all entries must be made on forms that appear in The Herald. Entries may be placed in collection boxes at Homerun Foods locations at 1002 W. Oakridge Drive, 2722 Dawson Road, 406 Philema Road, 1595 Highway 19 South in Leesburg, 1105 N. Westover Blvd., 1621 E. Oglethorpe Blvd., 3315 Gillionville Road at Beattie Road and 2619 Gillionville Road at Westover Boulevard.

Persons who want to enter but do not have an official entry form may obtain one by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to The Albany Herald.

Employees of Brad Lanier Oil Co., Homerun Foods and The Albany Herald and their immediate families are ineligible to win the Great Gas Giveaway's $1,000 prize.
