the school crossing guard at Westgate and Partridge sometimes will get out of his van and wave at traffic. The school is almost a mile away and no children ever cross there and haven't for years.Just another example of mis-management and waste of tax-payer dollars by the DCSS...

It's cold out there... or too hot, whatever the season... too many gnats, etc. You expect them to be uncomfortable while they work?

DCSS doesn't pay them enough to care. I'm always caught in the school zones on Newton Road and the kids never cross where they're supposed to.

They only need to be out when children are crossing. That is what their job is. And State Law says that if a child lives within 1.5 miles of the school, it is parent responsibility (either they get taken to school or they walk to school. )

Today at the crossing at Whispering Pines & Doncaster, I witnessed a pick-up truck running right through the stop sign to get on Whispering Pines and the Crossing Guard just sat in her car as if nothing happened. If she'd been standing on the corning she could have gotten his tag number.

You try standing out there in the hot and cold with few children coming and a tiny salary....then talk.....

It doesn't matter what the job is or what the wage is. If you agree to do a job and agree to certain compensation, you have an obligation to perform that job to the best of your ability, or else find another job.

I hope you teach your players better than the mindset your comment reflects, Coach.

out of curiousity-what is a school guard paid per hour and how many hours are they paid for each day?....do they get a gas allowance to drive back and forth?....I don't have as much problem with them staying in their vehicle when no kids are around as I do putting guards where no children ever cross...like the one on partridge and westgate....that school is almost a mile away.....
