Albany, Dougherty turnout light

As of 2:30 p.m., voters turnout has been light in today’s voting in Albany and Dougherty County.
Elections officials said 4,801 people had cast votes by 2:30 p.m. today. Combined with the 1,985 voters who cast early ballots, that 6,786 voters have gone to the polls so far.
The city of Albany has approximately 34,000 voters, and the city and county combined have about 50,000 registered voters.
City vote are deciding who will succeed Dr. Willie Adams as mayor from a field of three candidates — B.J. Fletcher, Dorothy Hubbard and JohN White. Albany voters are also being asked to decide whether alcoholic beverages can be sold on Sundays at places such as package stores, groceries and pharmacies.
In addition, voters in Wards II, IV and VI are deciding who will represent their respective wards on the City Commission.
All voters in Albany and Dougherty County are determining whether a special-purpose local-option sales tax for education should be extended for a maximum of five years. The tax is expected to generate $100 million.
