ALBANY — As of 2:30 p.m., voters turnout has been light in today's voting in Albany and Dougherty County.
Elections officials said 4,801 people had cast votes by 2:30 p.m. today. Combined with the 1,985 voters who cast early ballots, that 6,786 voters have gone to the polls so far.
The city of Albany has approximately 34,000 voters, and the city and county combined have about 50,000 registered voters.
City vote are deciding who will succeed Dr. Willie Adams as mayor from a field of three candidates -- B.J. Fletcher, Dorothy Hubbard and JohN White. Albany voters are also being asked to decide whether alcoholic beverages can be sold on Sundays at places such as package stores, groceries and pharmacies.
In addition, voters in Wards II, IV and VI are deciding who will represent their respective wards on the City Commission.
All voters in Albany and Dougherty County are determining whether a special-purpose local-option sales tax for education should be extended for a maximum of five years. The tax is expected to generate $100 million.

Voting no on the E-SPLOST will eventually hurt the children. Dont be so cruel...Yes, I know about the lunch scandal, but seriously, dont punish thousands of children because of what a few people are accused of doing. Those individuals will be dealt with if need be, but hurting kids is not the solution.

I have no confidence that the school board will do anyhthing regarding the lunch scandal, that's not to mention other money that has gone to waste. If we want to help the children. We need to do away with Murfree as superintendant, and get rid of James Bush, June Bug etc. Until we cleanse the DCSS of these parasites, my vote was a no on the E-Splost. Regarding the low turnout of voters, the same people that will complain about the winners will probably be the ones that didn't go out to vote.
