FSU rips GSW, 86-41

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes wrapped up their exhibition portion of their schedule with a visit to Florida State University. Their matchup against the Seminoles was GSW’s second Division I opponent in as many years. Florida State scored the game’s first seven points and never look back on its way to the 86-41 victory.

A Phillip Brown dunk off an assist from Colin Slotter got the Hurricanes on the board two minutes and eleven seconds into the game to make it, 7-2. GSW went scoreles for another two minutes before getting a Colin Slotter three-pointer.

Slotter led all GSW scorers with nine first half points. The Marietta native was supported by senior Evan Mobley and junior Milos Kleut with four points each. FSU’s Bernard James led all scorers with ten first half points.

FSU’s lead hovered in the thirties for most of the second half, and led by as much as 47.

The Hurricanes finished shooting 28.9% on 11-38 from the field and shot even worse from beyond the arc with 18.8% on 3-16 shooting.

Evan Mobley led the GSW offense with 14 points. He was supported by nine points from Slotter who also tallied four rebounds and an assist. Phillip Brown finished with eight points, five rebounds, one block and a steal in less than 25 minutes of play.

FSU’s Michael Snaer led all scorers with 15 points. He was one of three Seminoles to score in double digits. He was part of an offensive attack that shot 52.7% (30-57) from the field, and they out-rebounded the Hurricanes 37-23. The Seminole defensive pressure forced GSW into 23 turnovers.

Georgia Southwestern will begin its regular season with its home opener against Trinity Baptist on November 15th at 7:30 pm in the Storm Dome.
