The Darton College women's soccer team celebrates after winning the region title last week, and now will enter the national championship as the No. 3 seed.
ALBANY -- Seven of the best soccer teams in the NJCAA better be on the lookout for Darton College.
The Cavs, which took back over the No. 1 ranking in NJCAA Division I this week, will now enter the national championship tournament next week in Phoenix as the No. 1 seed.
The Cavaliers, who were No. 1 for two weeks during the regular season before being bumped by Schoolcraft College -- which failed to make the national tournament after losing in its region tournament -- are scheduled to face No. 8 seed Pima Community College (Ariz.) in its opener Nov. 17 at 8:30 p.m. at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix.
A win means the Cavaliers (20-1) would go on to face the winner of No. 4 Iowa Western and No. 5 Monroe Community College.
DC WOMEN SNAG NO. 3 SEED: The No. 3-seeded Lady Cavaliers are matched up in the first round of nationals with No. 6 seed Monroe Community College (N.Y.), the team that broke the Lady Cavaliers' near-perfect season (25-1) at the 2005 national championship final in Phoenix. Monroe won 2-1, putting an end to a top-notch Darton soccer team that still holds the national records for most wins and most consecutive wins.
This first-round match is scheduled to begin Nov. 17 at noon in Melbourne, Fla
If Darton wins, it will play the winner of Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa or Scottsdale Community College (Ariz.) on Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
