Those interested in selling something at Saturday’s Urban Garage Sale downtown have to register at GABE’s at 238 W. Broad Avenue.
ALBANY, Ga. — There will be toys and trinkets aplenty downtown Saturday, as Albany welcomes its first Urban Garage Sale into the heart of the city.
Hosted by the Downtown Merchant’s Association, the event will allow people and businesses from around the area to pitch various items from a designated spot in downtown.
Downtown Manager Aaron Blair said that the merchants have had more than 30 people register for a spot downtown.
“The intent was to get more people downtown so that the merchants could show off what’s going on down here,” Blair said. “At last count, I think they’ve sold most of the 200 block of Broad Avenue and other parts around downtown.”
The yard sale is free and open to the public and will start at 8 a.m. Saturday and will last until 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
There is still time for people to sign up to sell their stuff, he said. They just need to go to GABE’s at 238 W. Broad Ave. downtown and register. There is a $15 fee for each space.
The event is another opportunity for the merchants and Blair to showcase downtown.
In addition to the people selling their wares, many of the downtown businesses will also be open downtown, which gives them another opportunity to take advantage of foot traffic.
“For downtown to work, we’re going to have to try and get people down here after hours and on the weekend. This is one way we can do it, by having different events to spark interest,” Blair said.
