ALBANY, Ga. — A 25-year-old woman drove a Ford Explorer into a stop sign, struck a curb and smashed into a vacant house on the 800 block of Odom Avenue before 4:25 p.m. Friday, according to an Albany Police Department report.
Vanessa Cooper apparently grabbed the keys to the Explorer from her caregiver, jumped into the SUV and headed south out of her driveway at 1304 Lee Street. She then ran into the stop sign, according to a police spokeswoman.
Police say that Cooper, who is “mentally challenged,” was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Albany Fire Department and Dougherty County EMS also responded to the crash.
