Darton sophomore Shelby Bush scored the opening goal of Thursday's game against Monroe Community College.
MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Darton women's soccer team opened up the NJCAA national tournament with a 4-1 victory Thursday afternoon against Monroe (N.Y.) Community College.
The victory, which avenged Darton's loss to Monroe in the 2005 National Championship game, advances the Lady Cavs to a semifinal game at 2 p.m. Friday against Scottsdale (Ariz.)
Darton scored first when Haisha Cantave dribbled the length of the field and assisted Shelby Bush, who netted her 33rd goal of the year.
The Lady Cavs, who are seeded third and ranked fourth in the country, led 2-0 at halftime, but Monroe scored the opening goal of the second half to pull within one.
It's the seventh win in a row for Darton, which is 14-0-2 in its last 16 games.
The Darton men, ranked No. 1 in the nation and seeded No. 1 in the national tournament for the first time in school history, play their opening round game tonight in Phoenix against Pima Community College (Ariz.).
