ALBANY ALBANY — Eric Devaughn Colbert, 37, has been arrested after Albany police say he walked into a North Slappey Boulevard bank early Friday morning and fired shots, including some that may have been directed at a police officer who was in the bank at the time.
Alany Police Department spokesperson Phyllis Banks said that Colbert was facing 10 counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, who was identified as Christopher Richardson, 46. Banks said that Richardson did not return fire.
Richardson was uninjured and Colbert was arrested on the 1100 block of Whispering Pines minutes after the bank robber fled from the scene. He was booked Friday evening into Dougherty County Jail, a jail spokesman said.
Banks said that Colbert walked into the First State Bank at 2101 N. Slappey Blvd. and fired a single shot as he attempted to rob the bank. At that time, the suspect apparently noticed Richardson, who was accompanying a security deposit into the bank, and fired several more shots before fleeing without taking any money.
