ALBANY — With the Christmas season right around the corner, Chehaw is making final preparations for its annual Festival of Lights.
Chehaw employees are busy setting up holiday light displays all over the park for opening night Friday. This year’s display features the craftsmanship of Chehaw employees who created and assembled the light displays including their unique interpretation of the “12 Days of Christmas.”
“We are averaging 12- to 16-hour work days in order to complete the setup of the light displays,” said Don Meeks, Chehaw’s maintenance manager. “We are tired, but still in jolly spirits. It’s hard not to enjoy this job when you are surrounded by twinkling lights and you know how happy they will make the thousands of visitors to the park this season.”
The Festival of Lights is a magical ride through Chehaw, aglow with thousands of lights in holiday-themed displays. The lights are on every Thursday-Sunday and on Friday through Dec. 8 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
Then, the Chehaw elves will have the lights on all week through Dec. 31. The cost is $12 per car or $8 per car for Chehaw members. This year, Chehaw has created more than 400 new displays and has redesigned the layout of the lights.
