Voter registration drive slated for Friday

ALBANY, Ga. — Potential voters from South Albany will have an opportunity to register to participate in the 2011 elections Friday, officials say.

Roderick Jolivette tells The Albany Herald that there will be a voter registration drive at the River Road Church of Christ on the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Drive at 6 p.m. Friday.

At 7 p.m., candidates in the Ward VI race have been invited to meet with prospective voters.

Former County Commissioner Victor Edwards and community advocate Kowana McKinney are challenging incumbent Tommie Postell for the Ward VI seat on the city commission.

To vote in the 2011 general election, residents must be registered to vote by Oct. 11.
