CORDELE -- Lee County, the No. 1 seed in Region 1-AAAA's south sub-region, began Tuesday's region tournament with a pair of wins against Northside, Warner Robbins and Northside, Columbus.
In the opening round, Lee County defeated Northside, Warner Robbins, 7-3, and then advanced to the championship game of the winner's bracket with a 3-1 victory against Northside, Columbus.
Erin Callaway pitched both games for the Lady Trojans, allowing 11 hits and one walk and striking out five.
In the opener, Callaway had a single and two RBI, and Ashley Nichols had a triple and one RBI.
In the second game, Hailey Scott, Natalie Shiver, Nichols and Callaway each had a double, while Paiton Cromer had a single and two RBI.
The Lady Trojans, who are already assured a third-place finish in the region and guaranteed a trip to the state playoffs, play west sub-division top seed Houston County at 5:45 p.m. today.
WORTH COUNTY 15, DOUGHERTY 0: Worth County opened up the Region 1-AAA tournament with a decisive, three-inning victory against Dougherty on Tuesday, 15-0.
Worth opened the game with six runs in the first inning and continued to pour it on with two runs in the second inning and seven runs in the third inning.
Lauren Potts pitched all three innings and allowed no hits and struck out six. She only allowed two base runners, who both reached on errors.
Andrea Davis led the Lady Rams at the plate with two doubles and four RBI, while reigning Herald Player of the Year Haley Ellis was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Worth County, which received an opening-round bye, advances to the championship game of the winner's bracket, where the Lady Rams will play Crisp at 6 p.m.
