ALBANY --- Despite Saturday's 26-24 upset loss to conference foe Lane College, Albany State still had a pair of stars recognized as honorable mentions by the SIAC on Monday in its weekly awards list.
Junior running back Nate Hoyte did his part to try to get ASU the win, rushing for 76 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Last week's SIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, Larry Whitfield -- a former Monroe standout --- also was recognized for his efforts in the loss. Whitfield, who already leads the team in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks, piled up more impressive stats in his first season Saturday with a game-high 12 tackles, including seven solo, and a tackle for loss.
ASU (4-2, 2-1) returns to action Saturday when it hosts Morehouse.
