Bainbridge's Terry Lewis, 33, has helped lead the Bearcats to a 5-1 season. Bainbridge moved up to No. 2 in this week's Herald Fab 5 poll.
Bainbridge coach Ed Pilcher knows what it takes to win, and he simply says: "We're just trying to get better every week.''
Bainbridge has surprised a lot of football fans this year. They have steadily moved up The Herald's Fab 5 Poll, and climbed from No. 3 to No. 2 this week after an impressive 30-7 win against Northside, Columbus, replacing Lee County, which lost two weeks ago to Northside, Columbus and then last week to Northside, Warner Robins.
Bainbridge racked up 308 yards on the ground in that victory as Pilcher's veer ran over Northside. The Bearcats' only loss this season was two weeks ago to Northside, Warner Robins, the No. 2-ranked Class AAAA team in the state.
Monroe knocked previously No. 5-ranked Worth County out of the poll with a 27-6 win at Sylvester.
That win, and the fact Monroe has had some tough breaks this season in close losses, left the Tornadoes talking about running the table and reaching the playoffs.
"That's a season-turner,'' said Dynamite Dozen player Devine Noel, who played both ways for Monroe and never left the field this past Friday.
With Worth losing and Albany High, and Early County, which had both been ranked in the poll earlier this season, also losing last week, it left the door open for Monroe to make its debut in at No. 5 the Fab 5 poll.
