No. 14-ranked Lady Cavs soccer set for huge game today against No. 4 GPC

ALBANY - The Darton College women's soccer team feels is has something to prove as it gears up for a match with Georgia Perimeter at home today.

The Lady Cavs (9-2-1), ranked No. 14 in the nation, have tallied 75 goals in 13 games, posted 10 shutout wins, and are 9-0-1 in Region XVII play.

That one blemish -- the tie -- was to GPC, and they've also allowed only one goal this season against a region opponent -- again, vs. GPC.

The Lady Cavs tied GPC, 1-1, on Sept. 30, which knocked GPC down to No. 4 in the rankings, but the NJCAA's raters didn't improve Darton's status after the stalemate, and the program remained 14th.

"We don't seem to be getting any respect at all in the polls," Darton coach Ken Veilands said.

Other teams, however, are. Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.), is ranked higher than Darton, despite losing games to South Georgia College and Middle Georgia College, whom Darton recently beat, 9-0, and 7-0, respectively.

But to the Lady Cavs, the focus today is not all about who's getting more love from the NJCAA. It's about beating Georgia Perimeter.

"For us it's (about) confidence," Veilands said. "They're ready for this. They want to get on the field and play them.

Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
