Albany native Josh Broadaway had a rough first day at the Nationwide Tour event in Miami after firing a 2-over first round.
MIAMI -- Josh Broadaway's quest to earn his PGA Tour card hit a speed bump Thursday.
Broadaway fired a 2-over 73 during the first round of the Nationwide Tour's Miccosukee Championship on Thursday to start out tied for 121st place out of 144 golfers.
If this was any old tournament, Broadaway could chock it up to a bad day and move on to next week. But with just three events left in the season and with the Albany native currently No. 23 on the Tour's money list, he badly needs to not only make the cut, but earn a paycheck to stay in the running to finish in the Top 25 on the money list, which would automatically earn him his PGA Tour card for next season.
Broadaway began his round at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club -- a course he's had more success on than any during his career, finishing tied for third twice -- with thee bogeys, making the turn at 3-over. He then birdied Nos. 11 and 13 to pull to 1-over, but a costly bogey on No. 17 ended his day on a sour note.
The tournament was led by two players at 8-under.
