NAACP to hold annual freedom fund banquet

ALBANY, Ga. — For the first time, the Albany/Dougherty NAACP will conduct its annual Freedom Fund Banquet without a speaker, according to president David Williams.

Instead, Williams said, the membership will be “roasting” the Rev. James C. Bush, pastor of the Greater Pines Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, and chairman of the Dougherty County School Board.

“When he is thoroughly done,” Williams said, “Reverend Bush will be given an opportunity to respond. That is when the fun will really begin.”

Williams said the banquet will be held in the cafeteria of Monroe High School, 900 Lippitt Drive, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday. He said those attending should use the Newton Road entrance to the school’s parking lot.

According to Williams, banquet tickets are available for $30 each or $50 per couple. Children under the age of 19 may attend for $15 each. Entire tables seating eight people are available for $200.
