ATHENS, Ga. -- A Clarke County grand jury has indicted the former administrator of a retirement home and two ex-employees on charges they stole from or abused elderly and mentally frail residents.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/nBAvHJ ) Winterville police Sgt. Jimmy Fulcher says the Winterville Retirement Center's administrator, 47-year-old Sherrye Dianne Huff, came under investigation after the son of a patient complained of being notified he was in arrears more than $10,000 for his father's care.
Fulcher says Huff was supposed to have forwarded checks to the company that owns the retirement center.
An aide at the home, Cynthia Ann Barrow, is charged with abuse of an elderly person. Authorities say she punched an 82-year-old woman in the face.
Another aide, Shyniqua Anastacia Buckles, is charged with theft by taking and other charges.
