CAMILLA -- Wilma Draughon Brinkley Williams passed from this life to the next, quietly, Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2011 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home. She was 93.
Wilma's homecoming service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 7 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with interment in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. The service will be conducted by Rev. Clint Yelverton and special singing will be provided by a niece, Barbara Newberry Prenger.
Born May 10, 1918 in Grady County, Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Charlie Cooper and Leta Navada Taylor Draughon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Dawson Brinkley, on January 29, 1992; her second husband, Arthur Clarence Williams, on March 21, 1996; and her eldest grandson, Bradley Scott Brinkley, on May 15, 2011. Wilma lived a very fruitful life, being a housewife and cook second to none. She was a gifted seamstress, gardener, both of flowers and foodstuff. She had a miraculous "green thumb". She loved to share with everyone who ever visited her, sharing things like Mayhaw jelly, pepper sauce, and various items she had canned. One seldom left her presence without something.
She displayed a true Samaritan spirit, as she befriended many a person during her productive life. She also enjoyed flea markets and craft shows, displaying her many creations of dolls with delicate clothing, various animals dressed meticulously, as well as other articles sewn or decorated to her satisfaction. She was a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church of Cotton.
Wilma is survived by her children, Weyman Brinkley and wife, Betty, of Cotton, Glenda B. Sanders of Camilla, Cecil L. "Buddy" Brinkley and wife, Elaine, of Cotton, and Judy B. Frady and husband, Jim, of Hendersonville, NC; her sisters, Janelle Dowling and Leta Scott, both of Jacksonville, FL and Faye Coard of Portsmouth, VA; eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Visiation will be from 10 - 11 a.m., one hour before service, Wednesday, at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home.
