ALBANY -- Effective Thursday, The Millsaps Law Firm in Camilla has merged with the Hall Booth Smith & Slover firm, which has an office in Albany. Patrick Millsaps, founder and owner of the Camilla firm, joins HBSS as a partner.
Millsaps said he will continue to maintain his Camilla office "at least until the end of 2011," after which time he will work primarily in the firm's Albany location. He will bring two additional employees with him to HBSS as well.
Millsaps received his undergraduate degree from Samford University in 1995 and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2000.
He cites his desire to have a statewide practice as a primary factor in his decision to join with the Albany firm. He and Michael Meyer von Bremen, a former Georgia state Senator and partner in charge of Hall Booth Smith & Slover's Albany office, were discussing the topic during lunch when the basic decision was made.
"Rarely do you find an opportunity to work with a firm that has an identical business direction as yours -- building a statewide business," Millsaps said.
Meyer von Bremen said he is "excited that Patrick and his team from the The Millsaps Law Firm are joining our team here in Southwest Georgia."
Highlighted as a "rising star" by Super Lawyers Publications, Millsaps has extensive experience in civil litigation, alternative energy, health care and education law, HBSS sources say.
He has been rated "AV Preeminent," the highest rating available from Martindale-Hubbell, an agency offering "objective evaluations of the ethical standards and professional abilities of lawyers."
Millsaps currently serves as the chairman of the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission (formerly the State Ethics Commission). He has also served as the 2nd Congressional District representative on the Georgia Student Finance Commission and as a member of the Georgia Superior Court Clerks Cooperative Authority.
The Hall Booth Smith & Slover law firm has offices in six Georgia cities as well as in Nashville, Tenn., and Charleston, S.C. Its largest regional office is in Atlanta.
