LEESBURG -- Lee County came back from a 4-0 deficit against Colquitt County, and had the score knotted at 4-4 in the sixth with runners at first and third when the final out came on a line drive that was caught and ended up falling, 6-4, to the bigger Class AAAAA Lady Packers on Tuesday.

It's been a hard-luck season for the Lady Trojans, who have lost four games by one run and two more by two runs.

Lee County is 8-10 and will next host Thomas County Central at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the opening Region 1-AAAA game of the season.

SGA 14, VALWOOD 0 (4): It only took Bailey Ponder three innings of a four-inning game Tuesday to accomplish something coach Tommy Manry said he's never had in decades of coaching in Damascus.

"She's the first girl I've ever had earn 50 wins in her high school career," Manry gushed of his senior ace, who allowed two hits and struck out four in Tuesday's romp against Valwood. "That's pretty strong."

The milestone win improved Ponder to 6-2 on the season, and Tuesday's shutout victory was her 22nd game she hasn't allowed a single run out of those 50 wins.
