ALBANY — Sharon Dawn Haim, 43, of Canton, was found dead at about 10 a.m. Thursday at 430 W. Tift Ave., said Emma Quimbley, Dougherty County coroner.
“She was found by people working at a business at that address. They smelled something Wednesday and thought it was in the trash,” Quimbley said. “The odor was much worse Thursday and when they checked in a wooded and bushy area near the building; they found the body.”
The cause of death remains undetermined, Quimbley said. The body will be taken Monday to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab for an autopsy, she added.
“At this time, foul play is not suspected,” said Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Department spokeswoman.
Haim was reported missing to police Monday by her husband, Kevin Haim, who requested police check on her welfare at Grace Way Recovery Facility, according to a missing persons report.
The staff at Grace Way told an officer that Sharon Haim left the alcohol and drug treatment facility at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and did not return, the report added.
A woman who answered the phone at Grace Way Thursday would only reply “No comment” to questions about Haim and the facility.
