THURSDAY'S PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Lee, SGA, Southland all win

LEESBURG -- The Lee County softball team is one game closer to .500 after beating TCC on Thursday, 5-1, to move to 9-10 and 1-0 in sub-region play. Erin Callaway picked up the win, allowing just two hits.

Natalie Shiver led Lee with two hits and two runs scored, while Paiton Cromer had a double and 2 RBI and Jamie McPherson was 1-for-3 with a 2 RBI.

Lee's next game is at Bainbridge on Tuesday.

SGA 10, Terrell Academy 2 (6): Bailey Ponder grabs most of the headlines for SGA's softball team, but the Lady Warriors have a sensational eighth-grader who is ripping the ball this season.

SGA coach Tommy Manry says Baylee Everson is one of the best eighth-graders he has ever seen.

"She was hitting .638 before Thursday,'' Manry said.

Then Everson went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple, stole three bases, and drove in two runs.

Manry said Ponder (7-2) "wasn't feeling well," but she still picked up the win in six innings, giving up six hits and walking one. She had just one strikeout.

Haylee Chappell had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs to help SGA, which is now 9-2 and 4-1 in GISA Region 2-AA. TAE was led by Britany Spilman, who singled, doubled and drove in a run.

SGA plays a doubleheader in Macon against Windsor Academy, beginning at noon on Saturday.

SOUTHLAND 11, Deerfield 3, (5): Kelsey King (1-for-2), Emily Stone (1-for-2) and Sabrina Curry (1-for-3) led Deerfield, which remained winless and next plays at Tiftarea at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

No final stats for Southland were available.
