Former Lee County star Rachel Hatch, The Herald's 2009 and 2010 Player of the Year, is the fastest player on the Darton College women's team, but was lost for the year when she tore her ACL on Wednesday.
ALBANY-- The No. 8 Darton women's soccer team and No. 3 men's program both pitched shutouts Friday night at home against Meridan (Miss.) with the Lady Cavs (3-1) rolling, 7-0, behind three goals from Sashanna Campbell, while the Cavs (5-1) romped, 10-0, thanks to three assists from Diego Ramos and two goals from Andrew Palumbo.
The men led, 5-0, at halftime and never looked back as coach Bart Sasnett said he was able to play "our whole army," including reigning Herald Player of the Year, Danny Brown of Westover, who recorded his first career assist.
The news was not so good, however, for another former Albany Herald Player of the Year: Lee County's Rachel Hatch. Hatch was injured during Wednesday's win against Georgia Military, and Friday coach Ken Veilands ruled her out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL.
"That really hurts," Veilands said. "We're looking into (a medical redshirt for her). We're going to submit for it."
